Scaling and root planing

Periodontal Treatment: Scaling and Root Planing

Periodontal treatment usually starts with Scaling and root planing, which cleans the teeth and root of the teeth just below the gumline. This is initial periodontal treatment that helps to reduce chronic inflammation and the damage to tissues associated with it. Periodontal surgery, guided bone regeneration can also be utilized to arrest periodontitis.

Small ligaments between the cheek and gum can pull on the gum tissue around the teeth. Removal of a frenum is a simple and painless procedure often done in conjunction with braces placement or to treat recession of the gums.

Gingival Countouring or Crown Lengthening

These procedures are frequently done in conjunction with new crowns or veneers when a patient wants to change the appearance of the front teeth. A “gummy smile” can be fixed to reveal more of the pretty teeth underneath or the tissue shaped to fit new cosmetic veneer.

Dental implant

Dental Implants and Treatment of Peri-Implantitis

A dental implant is placed in the bone, where the root of the tooth used to be. The dental implant will have a crown placed on top to mimic the missing tooth. Our periodontists will work with your dental office to coordinate the surgical placement of the implant with the eventual placement of the crown. Other implant related procedures provided in our office include bone augmentation, sinus lifts and treatment of peri-implantitis.

Gum Graft

This is a procedure to increase the amount of gum tissue around the teeth either to cover the root surfaces after the gums have receded or to create thicker tissue around dental implants. This improves the health and longevity of the teeth.
